Phillip A. Denny

Phillip A. Denny joined Hanger Steinberg Shapiro & Ash in December 2018. He practices all aspects of personal injury, including automobile collisions and premises liability. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Denny worked as an associate attorney at a premier Plaintiff Medical Malpractice firm in Southern California, handling all aspects of a case from intake to trial. Bringing his experience as a Plaintiff’s attorney to the firm, Mr. Denny offers a unique insight into how a Plaintiff’s attorney values and prosecutes a case.

Mr. Denny earned his Juris Doctor from the Pepperdine University School of Law in 2017. During law school, Mr. Denny externed for Hon. Victoria S. Kaufman, United States Bankruptcy Court - Central District of California for two semesters and was an avid member of the Trial Team. After taking the Bar Exam in July 2017, he completed the prestigious ABOTA (American Board of Trial Advocates) Fellowship program. 

In his free time, Mr. Denny attempts to watch every Dodger game played each season and is the best defensive Center Fielder in the Malibu City Co-Ed Softball League.

Representative Results:

Obtained a full dismissal on a 12(b)(6) motion on complex Fourth Amendment, Unruh Act, and False Imprisonment allegations posed against a private citizen (Gonzalez v. City of Huntington Beach, United States District Court, Central District of California, Case Number 8:18-cv-00953-DOC-DFMx);

Second chaired several trials since his bar admission in 2017, including obtaining a complete defense verdict in 2021 on a negligent entrustment cause of action, and 50% comparative negligence for a Plaintiff who failed to yield to an emergency vehicle (Fredricksen v. Deybarrondo, Ventura County Superior Court Case Number 56-2018-00518812-CU-PA-VTA);

Obtained severe evidence and issue sanctions for an opposing attorney’s discovery abuse, leading to a nominal settlement and dismissal with prejudice (Nguyen v. Gonzalez, Ventura County Superior Court Case Number 56-2018-00510567-CU-PA-VT).
