Jonathan P. Cyr
Originally hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Mr. Cyr moved to California in 2005, commencing law school in that year. He joined Hanger, Steinberg, Shapiro & Ash in 2007 as a summer clerk during law school, and since that time he has handled or worked on numerous cases in the areas of neighbor disputes, property development matters, landlord/tenant, wrongful death, and actions involving enforcement/breach of CC&Rs and other homeowners association concerns.
Mr. Cyr was elevated to Member in January 2017.
Results and Select Cases
Mr. Cyr represented homeowners in a development dispute involving their next door neighbor and the homeowners association in a highly prized neighborhood in the hills of Los Angeles. The neighbor commenced construction without proper approvals in a manner which would severely obstruct views and lower the value of the affected property. Mr. Cyr successfully enjoined the construction, bringing the parties to the table and resulting in a favorable settlement that included reduction in the home’s overall size and footprint, and preserving the clients’ view.
In a contentious trip-and-fall case involving an alleged traumatic brain injury for which millions of dollars were claimed in loss of earnings and future care, Mr. Cyr’s commitment to assertive litigation tactics resulted in a sanctions award of several thousand dollars against Plaintiff’s counsel, which was then traded for a dismissal of the claims against the client.
Mr. Cyr has assisted in the successful resolution of numerous mold cases involving homeowners and residents, landlords and tenants, running the gamut from claimed allergic and respiratory injuries to wrongful death.
In cases involving claims of unfair treatment, housing discrimination, and retaliatory treatment, Mr. Cyr has disposed of or severely limited cases by way of summary judgment or demurrer, leading to favorable and quick settlements.
