John A. Demarest
John Andrew Demarest, Esq., is a member of Hanger, Steinberg, Shapiro & Ash. He is a very experienced trial litigator who has successfully represented individuals, entities and businesses in catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters, and against major property damages allegations for 30 years. Mr. Demarest has tried numerous cases to verdict in both the State Court and the Federal Court. He services have been retained to litigate out-of-state matters acting a counsel pro hoc vice. He has also litigated in excess of a thousand arbitrations. Mr. Demarest has argued matters in the both the California Court of Appeal and the United States Court of Appeal.
While his practice focus is civil litigation on behalf of defendants, primarily in the area of personal injury and real property, Mr. Demarest also is experienced in representing common carriers, landlords, and contractual litigation matters. Among the services provided is his advice pre-litigation so as to ensure the interest of his clients are protected. Mr. Demarest's services are often requested to assume the handling of a matter after litigation has commenced when settlement positions of the parties appear be too far apart. Mr. Demarest’s most recent trial was in 2017, in Federal Court, brought by a corporate trustee seeking a multi-million dollar verdict, wherein he obtained a defense verdict on behalf of his client.
Mr. Demarest lives with his wife in the San Fernando Valley, and has two sons, one in college and one in medical school. He is active in the community and works with and has served on the board for charitable causes that assist the educational needs of children and encourages children to be physically active. Mr. Demarest is also a supporter of many of the museums and parks that are a part of Southern California. Mr. Demarest was born in Alaska, and has lived also lived in Washington and Oregon.
